Terrazzo, traditionally a flooring surface, has been given new life through a collaboration between Lucie Kaas and Italian industrial designer, Alberto Bellamoli.

Terrazzo has its roots in a time when maximizing resources was a necessity. Locally referred to as "the poor man's marble" it is a composite material made of scraps of marble, pigment, and marble dust cemented together. Industrial designer, Alberto Bellamoli, has taken the material and reinvented its use through the collection ERAT.

Rosa corallo, nero ebano, verde alpi, bianco carrara, giallo siena. So specific are the stones used in the collection crafted and designed by Alberto. Originally from Verona, where terrazzo has been produced for centuries by local artisans, Alberto’s appreciation for the material cannot be underestimated.

Alberto Bellamoli about the design: "I designed the series of terrazzo colors by using some of the most classic Italian marbles, that has always been part of my surroundings. I balanced the blend of marbles to create a pattern that allows us to appreciate the beauty of every single stone. With terrazzo you always have the certainty that you have created something unique in every single piece."

Though terrazzo is versatile in its composition, it is not as flexible in shape. In addition to finding the perfect stone recipe, Alberto was also tasked with applying terrazzo outside of its conventional form. This gave birth to the merging of materials in the series where the ERAT collection brings together metal and glass to transform terrazzo into usable, everyday products.
