Introducing Little Petra VB2, an icon of Danish design that is now available as a two-seater sofa.
When architect Viggo Boesen first introduced Little Petra in 1938, it won instant praise at the Copenhagen Cabinetmakers Guild Exhibition, subsequently winning awards at exhibits in New York and Berlin. Nearly a century later, the iconic lounge chair has become available as a two-seater sofa for the first time.
Based on the original drawings, Little Petra VB2 promises the same exceptional craftsmanship as the lounge chair, but with even more space for you to sink in. From the hand-stitched fabric upholstery that covers the elegantly rounded back, to the short, shapely legs crafted in oak or walnut and a wooden frame built by hand, Little Petra reflects Boesen's fondness for organic materials. As its name suggests, it is a surprisingly petite piece, able to fit snugly into all kinds of spaces and interiors.
Beyond its inimitable style, Little Petra carries an important legacy. Seeking to soften the stark minimalism of the Bauhaus movement, Boesen pioneered a softer, more abundant style in the ‘30s that became known as 'funkis style.' As just one of a few designs by Boesen, Little Petra lives on as a prime example of that aesthetic. It captures a shift towards a more organic and gentle style of design that brought an endearing sense of coziness into the home.
"Little Petra is an old classic of Danish design that continues to impress design lovers today," says andTradition CEO and founder Martin Kornbek Hansen. "In its newest iteration as a two-seater sofa, we are proud that it offers the same outstanding level of workmanship and style as the original."
